DALLAS, TX and ATLANTA, GA - September 19, 2006 - The Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) and Super Computer International (SCI), today announced the launch of CPL® PlayLinc, a next-generation online game browsing and messaging platform that gives gamers more control over their multiplayer gaming interactions.
The collaboration between the CPL and SCI, in the works for several months, has both companies enthusiastic about the ability to take online gaming to the next level of competitiveness.
"For months we have been working with SCI to offer online gamers a valuable platform that will enhance their online gaming experience. The new CPL PlayLinc will also help us manage key online tournaments, like the Quake 3 USA Qualifiers at the Cyberathlete Amateur League (CAL). CAL has about 500,000 registered members and hosts year-round online tournaments for over 60 game divisions," said Angel Munoz, Founder and President of the CPL.
At SCI, a small, highly specialized technology developer located in Atlanta, Georgia, the opportunity to team with the world's preeminent gaming league has company principles excited. "We're absolutely thrilled to be able to team with an organization that is synonymous with gamers who take their gaming experience very seriously," said Jesper Jensen, CEO of SCI, an avid gamer himself - spending between 15 and 20 hours a week playing multiplayer games online. "Until PlayLinc, PC gamers had to cobble together tools from various services to manage their teams or IM while in game. We're offering them all of that in one simple platform and a whole lot more."
Thus far, industry analysts and gaming enthusiasts are weighing in positively on the PlayLinc experience. In a CAL-managed tournament, which tested a pre-release version of PlayLinc, about 6,000 online gamers downloaded the client. The eventual winner, Micah Ernst, suggested that PlayLinc might be the most revolutionary tool in the history of online gaming. "The PlayLinc client was an amazing experience," said Ernst. “It was the difference in driving a Formula One race car or my Mom's sedan."
