Super rumour: they say a beta version of DOOM III (stolen, of course), appeared on the net and can be found with edonkey2000. edonkey2000 >> extend search - Doom.III.Beta.v1.31.cracked.by.Schlossberg.zip - size 453 Mb I'd like to remind that beta versions of Unreal2 and UT2K3 have appeared the same way before. And what if they didn't manage to get DOOM III to Quakecon 2002 wherer they promised to show it?

This kind of files are distributed everyday. Fake doom 3 betas have been circulating edonkey and other filesharing networks probably since d3 was announced. Heck, I even saw a download for the "full quake 3" on a web page some 6 months before the real leaked test.

I didnt hack swear cyber god. you wont find any betas or alphas because ID software didint release 1 the game play movie like they said it was like video demo and they made just hand and a few weapons for it i think you should try search for it in January 2003 or so in short words after christmas and not on edonkey because the first betas go to IRC servers first and read the ShareReactor you will see how many fakes and trojans and different viruses in the packes that labeled with famouse game names or apps so stupid lammers like 13 y.o. maybe less think that they are cool because they downloaded some old viruses or if they named the game differently (myabe they think they will learn money for more uploads) lol so i think you all must see this site h**p://www.packetnews.com/ if you dont know where to search on IRC and only after Christmas because usualy betas and alphas coming out like 6 months before the game released and the final version will out at the end of June 2003 or in the beginig of July 2003 good luck people

Well, u can run in any mode you like, but it's slow as hell .. I'm running it on a AMD 2100xp, gf4 128mb, 1024 mb ram... and i get like 5 - 30 fps ... but it looks incredibly nice... when a better version is leaked, I will certanly play it more.
btw: to run the maps you have to use the console and issue the commands:
map e3/e3_1
map e3/e3_2
map e3/e3_3

to run the different maps.. . to run the intro, use: map e3/intro

If anyone has got it running with smoother fps than i get, pls gimme the tweaks =)

Most eDonkey sources are on the Adanet server, just keep clicking on it till it lets you in. If its not on your server list get a new list from sharereactor. I had about 20 sources and 50 megs downloaded when I left this morning.

I think its true that doom 3 E3 was leaked from id.
I heard that we can´t be connected to the internet when we use it because of the spyware / callhome software.
Doom 3 can be found in hubs on DC++
It has queues but i can wai, i prefer to wait 1 or 2 days to download it slowly than to wait for the first oficial release.

If you can't see the files on your news host(quite normal on your isp's host), then either sign up for a good provider or wait to see if appears in the next day or so (it needs time to propogate).

Grrrrr, how come CuteFTP is refusing to connect me to anything. The only ftp/PeerToPeer/IRC thing I've gotten to connect and work is kazaa. I think it has something to do with the D-Link router I'm running on that is blocking access or something? Any thoughts guys? BTW. Doom3 seems to be a very demanding game. I read at viaarena.com that on a P4 2.4 GHz with a Geforce4 ti4600

To those of you that don't believe it actually HAS been leaked, I am running it right now. I had it by 3am this morning.
It is a major alpha and the engine needs major tweaking so most of you won't be able to run it past 7-15fps.

Doom 3 is quite nice!
I just teste Doom3 on a P4 2.266 with GF 4 128RAM, and it ran nicely from 12-70FPS. The sounds scheme kicked ass and the gfx is AWESOME!!

It's no bullsh*t. It's a 364MB download and 1.05GB unpacked. It contains 3 levels + intro.

Trigger the levels in console by typing map e3/e3_1, map e3/e3_2 and map e3/e3_2 and map e3/e3_intro. Haven't tried to access the ontro yet. It plays when you start it. The third level is the famous level where the big beasty-thingie drags the corpse in the room and start eating it.

The effects and sounds on this early E3 playable demo ROCKS!!! Best I've seen ever!! No doubt.

The sounds kicked ass! Turn oup the sound = Turn up the chills. It's pretty scary. Ppl keep respawning behind you. It's a bygge piece of demo, but it's no problem to play it. Haven't had the opportunity to play it much cause I tested it on a friends computer. He kinda wanted to play it himself. :) My computer isn't by FAR powerful enough. P3 900, GF2 32. It's useless! :) A 1800 and above CPY will do pretty much with a GF4.

ANd believe me, it's worth the download, but not if you play it on a slow computer. You'll kill the experience.

We ran it on a onboard kinda soundcard. Don't know what brand. Pobably a no-name onboard brand. Another friend of mine didn't get the sound. I used a SB Live 1024 and the sounds were ok. Well, as requested, I will do up a little review for it.

Graphics: Well, I can only get it to run in a window at 640 x 480 with low detail (though there are 2 configs that you can exexute called mediumdetail.cfg and highdetail.cfg) but even in its low resolution/low detail mode, it is still amazing to look at. All the shadows and everything make the environment very spooky. I have 2 problems with the graphics though. The first is that when you look in a mirror, no matter what gun you have equipped you still see a pistol and secondly, I'm not really fond of the way the muzzle flashes look..although other people could think differently.

Gameplay: It isn't that much different that any other FPS, it is just Doom. However, the gameplay is very slow paced and VERY frightening. The Imps made me jump a few times and I shat my pants when I first laid my eyes on the Hellknight (I can only imagine what the Barons of Hell will look like). The AI isn't too bright either, but you fight mostly zombies through the first sections of it, so I guess that is a somewhat valid excuse for stupid enemies.

Again, its not a ground breaking FPS, but from what there is to play, it is no means bad in any way.

Sound: This is a really good part of the game. If you have a 5.1 Dolby system you'll be in for a big treat..the sounds are really incredible and suck you right into the game. Adds to the scary factor too :o

Well, good luck finding it guys..I got it from alt.binaries.games.worms as well (newsgroups) at about 850 kbps :)

How to make Doom3 work
You can't just select "New Game" on the title screen. You have to open up the console and type "map e3/e3_1" or e3_2 or e3_3. Or you could enter e3intro to see the intro movie. The gui just hasn't been implemented yet so you have to use the console for everything.

I know that hobo, but it was stated that R300 is only a temporary platform that it was shown on. Nv30 chipset is tapeout and going through few revisions right now.
And cant be compared to r300 as it is way to far for it ;)
Doom3 was intended to be used with Nv30 but nv30 got delay so Ati was chosen. btw E3 presentations were in medium setings ;) EOT 6am got to sleep. :)

this file pmx2ogl is in xp windows c:windowssystem32 directory ive renamed it and the game went full screen but came back to windows this time and an error showed up in console unable to initialise opengl.
I know im going nowhere but just trying stuff.
Its definitely a graphics problem, maybe drivers will fix it or maybe doom3 is still only prepared to work with nvidia cards.

BTW. I just had myself some Doom3 and I must say that the graphics are astounding. It ran a bit choppy at times. But when standing in an empty room with no monsters I even got up to 80 FPS, but then again it dropped as low as 5 FPS.

The file is callled "copy of doom_iii.exe". Just search for doom 3 alpha or any other combination of those words, it should appear because most of the words are in the keywords part of the file. I know people found it because I have 4 d/lin it now. In the description of the file, I have also included how to get it up and running.

my friend recently aquired the full doom 3 demo. he says it is over 1 gig uncompressed, zips to around 350 megs or so. he showed me the game and i can say that if this is only a demo, the real game will kick ass. things fall off the walls, people and monsters have shadows and realistic lighting, and the graphics are FAR superior to any other engine out right now.

You need a program called winrar. To unzip the .rar file. Search google to find the main site for winrar, then download it.

I played some of this Doom III leaked Alpha today, managed to get about 20FPS in the game, up to 50FPS in an empty room. 4 FPS when killing that monster with tentacles and the chain gun.
This is with a TI4600, dual P3 1.0ghz. One thing I can say for sure though, it that having LOTS of RAM sure helps.

I watched taskmanager as DooM 3 loads, it ate up 980Mb of RAM! Now it consistently uses about 531Mb when I run it for some reason, getting less?!

But I am not impressed with this Doom 3, you can't shoot out the lights, or deform the environment. At least in DUKE NUKEN circa 1996, you could shoot out the TV screens. heh. I swear games are going backwards.

While a lot of you are waiting for someone to put it up on a ftp site, or trying to grab it with some sort of web sharing program I already was playing it. Learn to use newsgroups. Anything you could want is there, nuns having sex with donkeys (alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.bestiality). There is 1000's of specific erotica groups to cater to all your needs. Gigs of new quality porn/games/apps/mp3's/movies/operating systems/ and anything else you could possibly want. Go get the full non-restricted 30 day agent 1.92 from http://www.forteinc.com After you set it up, goto alt.craks,or alt.binaries.games download the headers and look for a registration key. It's really not that hard, if I can do it anyone can. The web is good for tv-guide, weather, stuff like that.
P.S. for you young ones, there used to be a internet before there was a web. The web is too restricted in it's content, sure you can find some stuff here and there. Newsgroups are a goddamn free for all.

the reason is only runs from 20-30 fps is cause they made it that way... read up on some things that have been going on with it, they programmed the game to only run at 30 max fps, caramack made that the ceiling. to "keep the games cinematic qualities" or somethign like that im not positive but it isnt going to run much faster than that in the final versions, there is also no multiplayer in the pipe for it yet, maybe as an add on after the inital release but not in the beginnign, hence the no need of FPS

The address below works. However trying to download it without some type of download manager resulted in a time out error. I used Download Accelerator and left the window up while it was trying connect. Eventually it did connect. Took awhile to download it though 6 hours approximately. Here is the link.

How to get Doom 3 to work + Instructions
After sucessfully downloading the leaked demo it kept crashing after I'd choose single player in the menu. Then I remember a webpage that I viewed while I was trolling the net looking for the demo. Unfortunately the link http://www.ut2003online.com/doom3.html#6

Luckily I had some foresight this evening and saved the html file to disk. Below is the text from that file. If you'd like it emailed to you just email me and I'll send it to you. The info will help you set up your configuration, load maps, display fps, record demo, and play MULTIPLAYER!!!!!! (NO SHIT I'm serious)

********************INSTRUCTIONS***************************

NOTE: You don't need to use the exec runact.cfg command. That information was originally posted on this site, very early on. It has since been discovered that the command is not necessary. Please let people know; there's no use in having to wait for five minutes every time you load the game.

New instructions to get up and running (basic solution, for tweaks see further down the page) :

After you unrar, just go to the Doom_IIIbase directory, and DELETE the DoomConfig.cfg file. Then launch doom.exe. The game will rebuild that config file and give you better default settings.

To interact with the game at this point, you'll be using the console. Press the tilde key (~) once you're at the main screen.

Recording demos

I haven't seen this posted anywhere yet, so I figured I'd draw up a quick how-to.

Type the following:

bind F5 recordDemo
bind F6 stoprecording

These two binds will give you keys for starting and stopping a demo, respectively. You can substitute in the keys you prefer, it doesn't matter. In this case, when you want to start capturing the action in the game, press F5. When you're done, press F6.

The demo files are stored in your Doom_IIIbasedemos folder. They will be labelled incrementally, e.g. Demo001.demo, demo002.demo, etc. To play back your demo within the game, type playdemo demo001 (or whatever the demo filename happens to be).

However, to get your demo into a movie format, there's a few extra steps.

Making a demo into an avi

After you've got a good demo, type aviDemo (for example, aviDemo demo001).
This will play back your demo while taking a whole bunch of screenshots. When it's done, exit the game and look in your "Doom_IIIbasedemosdemoname" folder. Depending upon how long your demo was, you could have anywhere from 100mb to 10 gigs of .tga files.

Download this program and run it: http://www.css.tayloru.edu/~btoll/f99/350/res/pjBmp2Avi.zip

From the program's main screen, in the Directory field, type in the path to your demo's screenshots folder. (The "Doom_IIIbasedemosdemoname" I described above). A quicker way is to click the "..." button and just browse to the directory.

Change the file option from BMP to TGA. You should then see a list of all the screenshots appear in the "Files" field.

Under "Output" options, type the path and name of the avi you wish to create (e.g., "C:moviesdoom3rocks.avi")

Leave the default Frame and Key Rates (if any of you movie experts suggest a better setting, let me know).

Click the create button. A new window will pop up, prompting you to select a video codec. I suggest you use Divx 5.0.2. After you click OK, the program will compile your .tga files together.

After the window closes, you're done! Go to the target directory you specified, and watch your first Doom 3 movie =)

Cheats / Hints
The keycode for the pad in level 2 is "924"

The codes from Q3 are still in the game at this point, but if for some reason you aren't familiar with them, here's a quick list (again, these are typed from the console):

God mode: god
Extra health: give health
Weapons: give weapon_weaponname (e.g. rocket launcher, plasmagun...some of these will crash)
Fly through walls: noclip

Multiplayer
FIRST OFF!!! THIS IS AN ALPHA, AND THERE ARE MANY MANY MANY UNFINISHED PARTS!!! THIS INCLUDES THE MULTIPLAYER, SO THERE ARE MANY MANY MANY LIMITATIONS!!!

First off, before you are told how to play multiplayer, here are some of the limitations:

1) Only the Pistol works, using any other weapon, kills the client connection.

2) Player animations are NOT finished!!! So the players look funny walking around the rooms "stiff"

3) None of the E3_x maps have Deathmatch starting points by default, So you will need to edit them,
or download pre-edited maps, and add them into your base/maps/ directory accordingly.

4) IF there are any mosters on the level, there is a very good chance when they attack one
of the players, and or kill one (or are killed) It will kick off the client connection.
This means, you will also have to have an edited map that includes no monsters!

5) So If you are playing an edited map, BOTH PLAYED MUST HAVE THE SAME REVISION MAP!

6) If the client player kills the host player, it will usually end the server connection,
This means GAME OVER, time to start a new server, and reconnect!

OK, now that you know the limitations, here is how to start a server, conenct to the server
and some techinfo & notes. keep in mind THIS WILL WORK BEST ON A LAN!

To be (start) a server, bring down the console, and type:
"spawnserver mapname" //(ie. "spawnserver empty")

next, goto the client computer, and type:
"connect computername" //("connect windows_computer_name")

Now, this will work fine for the LAN, but if you want to connect over the internet,
it gets allot more tricky. SINCE THIS IS AN ALPHA, the connect command does not recognize
ip addresses as a valid parameter. BUT, there are ways around this. ;)
1) Make sure the computer you are connecting to has a internet DNS name, and then type:
"connect mydomain.com"

2) Second methed, edit your local windows hosts file to point to the ipaddress of the DooM ]|[ server.
To edit Your windows hosts file type the following line in the "Start -> Run" command:
notepad %windir%system32driversetchosts

at the bottom of this file, you will see the following line:
127.0.0.1 localhost

You will need to add a line below that one telling the computer where the DooM ]|[ server is,
something like this:
123.123.123.123 doom3server

Except, you would use the real ip address of the server you are going to connect to.
Now, from the client computers doom console you would type:
"connect doom3server"

Thats it! you should be connecting!!!
However, if you have a firewall router setep, you will need to open the following ports:
27973 UDP
27974 UDP

NOW ON TO A WORKING MULTIPLAYER MAP!!!
if you have the jk_v01_e3_2.zip edited e3_2 map file, extract the e3_2.map file into your
"doom_iii/base/maps/e3" directory.
BEFORE YOU DO THIS BACKUP THE EXISTING E3_2.MAP FILE!!!!!

SOME NOTES ON THIS MAP:
It has had all the monsters taken out!
It has had 2 Deathmatch starting points added into it!

It has a few issues when you are playing it:
1) The cutscene is still there, so the first time a player walks over the trigger,
both players will have to watch the cutscene.
2) The door is locked, so one player will have to unlock it for the other player,
after that its DeathMatch TIME!!! (the Doorkey is 9-2-4 if you didn't already know)

well, just passing by. I hade the chance of playng the alpah 2 days ago, si I got to tweak in every way the settings. Now I have an athlon xp1600+, geforce 3ti200 and 256sdram, the geforce is oc-ed to about ti500. First, I think it runs BEST at 800x600x32 (mode 4 and I forgot the seting for bpp). Also, it runs better with 32 bit textures and compressed (mode 2 and all compressed setting turned to 1). Also, in windows xp runs a lot better then 98 (i got both). Some tweaks in the bios helped (in advenced chipset, just turn everything that sound slower , to higher, but carefully. like fastwrites...). I now run it at 20 fps aprox. It sometimes slows down to 10 (the big machinery in level 2), and speeds up to 30-40 in some rooms. Just DON't run the high detail .cfg, because it turns anisotropic filtering to 8, and that reeeealy slows down the computer with no actual image improvement. Also, you can try turning stereo sound on. Just don't disable the shadows, dynamic lighning or bump maps. They are the cream of the game.
My oppinion that since this is an early alpha, the game will run excelent on a system like mine when it' done. Also the detonators will be optimized for doom3, si you will gain extra peformance. If yu have an athlon or p4 at over 1.3 gh and a gf3, don't upgrade yet. It might run just fine.

I got it and it's SWEEEEEEEET! The sound is amazing; lots of ambient noise and stuff. It's got most of the dev commands mapped onto the keyboard by default, so I was fooling around putting light sources and stuff (if you get it, hit + on the keypad to add lights). Just fooling around I found a Pinky, some of the fat and thin zombies, and 3 of the giant scary ones with camo pants... Haven't seen any Imps yet though.

Anyways I got it by searching Google, and here's the link: http://www.novaesleite.brturbo.com/Doug/Files/doom_iii.rar. It may be a slow download (mine took over an hour on cable) but its DEFINITELY worth it. The game is already one of the coolest things I've ever played, and it's a 3-level ALPHA for chrissake.

BTW, pretty much all the standard Q3 console commands work (bind, bindlist, all the developer commands, map... etc), so you can all have fun with that after your several-hour download :D

I have Athlon XP 1800, Geforce 4 TI4200 64MB, 512MB RAM, NV7-133R mobo. Most people with a setup like this are getting around 18fps but when it gets graphic intensive drops to about 5fps.

It's not even an alpha release, it's an alpha leak. This wasn't even meant to be played. It was supposed to play the recorded demo of an id techie putting it through its paces. As it happens, it does a damn good job of being playable on its own.

The final product of a game has been optimized out the ass and rigorously tested to ensure quality gameplay on as many operating environments (hardware+software+OS) as possible. This is a build based on an unfinished product that was never intended to run on consumer systems at all, let alone as many different kinds as people are now throwing at it.

This means that the quality of gameplay is going to be very randomly affected by what video card you have, what processor you're running, what kind of RAM you have, and whether you have your desktop clock running in 12 hour or 24 hour mode. It's completely up to blind luck whether or not you'll have 40 fps or 4. (And I've experienced both in the same session.) You may not have sound. I have sound. I don't have music or voices in the cutscenes, and maybe you do. This is going to vary. Suck it up. Don't bitch, whine, and/or moan. This is not a demo, this was not created with the end user in mind, and none of us should be seeing it at all for all of the above reasons. Only id knows exactly what environment this was supposed to run in, and, frankly, I have a feeling they're not going to be real open about releasing more details about this all.

I have 5 people downloading it from my secondary computer which is connected to Kazaa at this very minute. If you scroll up to my posts yesterday evening you'll also see it can be downloaded from edonkey and from an http site as well.

They are on Kazaa and also edonkey=(crappy DL time). I got them from a private FTP site. I have only seen 1 test map but there should be a few maps by the end of the week by multiple folks hard at work. I've been following some other forums too.

The Kazaa search doesn't always bring them up, even when I know they are up. Keep trying and you should be able to get them. I've heard that Google and other search sites have yanked search strings for "doom iii/3 alpha", so it makes finding the files a little harder.

Well...got it to work...
I've got an XP1700+ 512DDR and an 8500 and ran it at 1024x768 nicely enough to walk around smoothly, and not slow down too much knocking off some zombies, etc.
I did switch to 16 bit..though 32 was fine too.

At first I couldn't get it to load..it froze or I got an "MPC blah blah" error. I decided to use the console to load a map rather than hit "single player". Tada!No problems since tweaking a bit as I was missing and having some flashing textures.

It looks good for an alpha...and was scaring me quite nicely here alone in the dark. Great sounds on 4 speakers.

I don't know why everyone is so worried about it leaking. big woop-dee-doo 3 levels that bearly work there's hardly a story and what story there is is just a revamp of the first DOOM's story. For god's sake the E3 alpha demo dosen't even run in fullscreen. If they think im guanna get tired of the game from this little alpha test there wrong. All it is is a video card graphic demostration. If anything I want to (buy)the game even more now.

Fullscreen
This is for LORDTACO. If you go to Doomconfig.cfg, open it with notepad, Ctrl+F, look for fullscreen. You should see fullscreen there. Change the 0 to a 1 and then close out. Now the game should run in full screen. It does work because everyone I have had do this receives a full screen of Doom III.

MOST OF THE ERRORS, are sounds based, I would'nt worry about them, it will generate the error mess as it unzips the files, just click close, the file is ok

Doom III Alpha leak patch 1.1!!!??
Hey all,

I'm not sure if this is a fake or not but here is a url that claims of a patch for the leak.

I'm downloading it right now it's just shy of 4MB. I will will test it for viruses and trojans, apply the patch then report back here. If it works I will put it up on Kazaa as well. Below are the list of fixes.

Fixes:

1. Added fix to get flashlight working; key bound to f
2. Added bassies' menu code so menus now...well, still work
3. Single Player Menu Item now works
4. Two doom.exe binaries. 1 with intro and 1 without
5. At the end of each level, the next level is loaded
6. The door on e3_3 that the monster goes through is now closed and opens when you get close
7. Sound throughout the whole intro works
8. The reload key is mapped to r
9. F12 key is bound to add all working weapons
10. After using F12, all ammo is given

Don't even bother with kazaa it is the worst P2P for corrupting large software downloads. Had a race with my friend we got it at the same time, mine works his doesn't, heheh. D/Load eDonkey and spend 5 minutes setting it up and stop being a lazy sod.

O and it wasn't hard to get reload and flashlight. they just named the flashlight wrong. its flashlight2.tga when the game looks for flashlight3.tga

just rename the file in the light directory and then in the console type bind <key> flashlight

same with reload bind <key> reload

Running the Game in Windowed mode, 16 bit color and manually loading the map from the console ala map e3/e3_1.map worked like a charm...

Without those settings, I would get the MFC error....Worth a shot

Try normal OpenGL mode instead of NV20 mode, that may help a bit as well...

Cheers for the patch guys works a treat, I've got it working on both my 2000 machines has anyone got it working on 98 or ME? Got it running on my home machine and it's alot more playable than work I guess it's the difference between the P4 2 gig at work and the xp2100 at home! Anyone get the physics repeating bug on level 2 when the zombie throws a barrel at you! I had some kind of physics overflow warning and everything dropped to 1 fps

I managed to increase the fps by a factor of 3

too bad this means I'm now hitting 3 fps

I'm about to give up on trying to get tis shit to work better
its not for general consumpion, and it shows, I'm not a developer and very few others here are also, I would suggest to save your DL bandwidth and just keep playing UT2003 or whatever your fav game is right now

I've tried copying from my working q3a config all the tweeks that increase fps, and to tell the truth its not doing much
I'm not about to spend 3000 on a machine capable of running this at 50fps just to see what it can do, because to be truthfull its not finished and is just not worth the effort to play 3 maps

Have any of you tried either of these commands in the console?

I tweaked my mediumquality.cfg a little and now get 30fps walking in the levels. I get between 18-25 during action such as shooting monsters, doors opening and etc.

Also, I fixed the problem I had early this morning: doom 3 simply does not run on p2/celeron processors, so all you need is that fixed exe (thanks to who helped me here and @ doom3.dk).
The bad news is that I'm getting 3 fps with r_mode 4, r_colorbits 16, r_shadows off, r_useStandardGL off. It's not playable. Any tweak suggestion?

in about 20 hours with dsl. it works great. I've got an Athlon 1.2, with 512 MB of RAM and a radeon 9700 pro. I had to tweak the Doomconfig.cfg file a bit to get more than 3 fps, right now I get around 30 walking around, but five or less when I'm doing something like walking through a door, or shooting a zombie.

If you get this error with win rar and you have winrar 3.0 then try repairing the doom_iii.rar within the winrar archive. This should fix it and when you extract you will get the .exe as well.

Well I used to get around 18fps on my XP2000/GF4 system. After installing the patch I get around 40. I've had stuttering sound, but I changed the number of speakers in DoomConfig from 6 to 2. It fixed it. So now I get to run around at 40fps with good sound. :-)

I was able to turn off the blood splats, which really made a difference. Instead of 1 fps when I shoot a zombie, I now get 25!

In your base directory is a folder called 'def'
Open the 'projectiles.def' file in textpad or something similar, and then change the line:
"Impact_Blood" "1"
to:
"Impact_Blood" "0"

Its too bad you can't see the holes bullets make after you turn blood off, that was a cool effect. But it really makes a big difference. bigger than screwing around with sound ever did for me.

THE REASON IT RUNS SLOW
It runs slow because it is not complete and is not running at the proper settings. It doesnt have driver support. So the person on this message board who has dual cpu's, that doesnt make a difference in gaming anyway. Having 2 cpu's only gives you multiprocessing, not higher frame rates. And who buys dual 2000athlons, a gig of ddr ram, with a piece of shit video card. Dont blame ID cause the game runs slow its not finished., this game when released will run smooth on 1 ghz with a geforce 3 or higher.

This is so cool.
I got this thing from the nova's elite website. The one from KaZaA which is 364 MB is a self extracting archive which has a virus attached. You can use WinRAR to extract the files without triggering the virus, but you will have only half the data and NO doom.exe file. When I got it from nova it extracted without the errors people said it had. I launched the exe without editing the config file and it worked perfectly. I run at 640x480 in windowed and it runs at 30-40 FPS walking and opening doors, and 12-15 when fighting things. I am running on a 1.3 Ghz P4, 640 MB RAM, GeForce 4 Ti 4600. This thing uses massive amounts of memory(768 allocated to it) and 88 MB textures. This is unbelieveable. But could someone link to the patch file and the multiplayer maps? I know you can edit the maps by hand but that might take several hours(e3/e3_2.map can be opened with wordpad and the monsters can be deleted, but I don't know what the deathmatch spawn line is). The leak is real, just download from Nova's Elite.

Patch Found!!
An article on Slashdot.org led me to the patch. You can d/l it from: http://darkvision.f2o.org/article.php?sid=913&mode=&order=0&thold=0

It fixes the menu and stuff so you don't have to delete your doomconfig.cfg file or run runact.cfg, but it actually made the game run worse for me, since I had edited doom as much as possible (that I know of) it threw me back about and hour and a half to get it back to being completely optimized.

It may work differently for other people though...

The same problem happened to me when i tried to use the exe, what you have to do is open up your rar (if you haven't deleted it) and when its finished finding files press ctrl+r to repair it and when it asks you about suspicious files just press all.
when thats done open the new rar file and extract it then simply play!!!!

Someone wrote earlier that the doom3 rar file was containing a virus but, by using Winrar it wouldnt be triggered off, but you would only get half the data and no exe file. I wounder if you would set the virus off if you would repair the rar file with Winrar and then unpack it?

Read my second post on the Radiant editor. I forgot to finish the post the first time and double posted.. sorry people. To open the editor launch doom.exe as usual, when you get to the main menu open the console and type "editor"(no quotes). As for playing the levels make a folder and point to it in the configuration file I posted above, you must have the config file OR IT WILL NOT WORK! The file is just the radient file from Quake III renamed and put into the Doom_IIIbasescripts folder.

To load your levels type "map *path to your maps*" and it should go. I'm not very good with the radient editor so I haven't tried making my own maps with it.

And for the skepicts it exists. It runs just fine on my GeForce 4 Ti 4600. Just look for doom_iii.rar which is 364 MB, or a self extracting archive which is 381. The 372 MB is a self extrating archive which has a virus installed when you try to extract the files(by running the SFX exe, no virus from WinRAR extraction though).

I have the demo...leak...whatever. It is real. I have a real world computer amd 1700 500mb of 2100 ddr + geforce2gts. It works reasonably well for me..you can see what they are trying to achieve. Has anyone noticed the massive monster 'lost in the shadows' in the second map? You cant interact with (shoot!!) him and somehow your positioning in the map sends him lumbering off down a corridor only to dissapear.

The half bull half robot thing gives a real impression of mass and size when he has a go at you. Doent seem to be my sort of gameplay (unfair because I know its not finished yet) but its certainly whet my appetite.

If you still cannot get it download imesh and search with doom_iii_e3_alpha.rar
It'l take a while even with dsl but Ive clocked 48 uploads off my file already!!

Some of you are jumping the gun by speculating and guessing Doom III's final release quality based on this leaked alpha demo. That is a bit premature.

I do recognize Id as NOT the creator of any truly great single player games. The licencing of their engines, multiplayer, mod community is what made Quake I - III stay on our hard drives.

Personally I don't expect Doom III to be an excellent single player experience. That feeling isn't based on this leaked alpha. It is based on Id's history with PC gaming. I will however buy Doom III and will be antisipating great mods and other games made with the Doom III engine.

Imagine HalfLife 2 with the Doom III engine.!!!!

I played Doom I, II, Final etc. (at least any Doom Game) both on PC and PSX and enjoyed the games, as well as the Quake Series. I expect the same from Doom III and I believe I will get the game I expect: A great single player experience. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Id hasn't created great games. Other than Commander Keen I have owned every game they have made. I've enjoyed each and every one of them... But,... other than Doom I and II, I've never finished the single player portion of the game.

You mentioned, "what else should matter in a fps?" I feel gameplay, storyline, and atmosphere matter more than graphics and map design in a single player fps. I like art museums and marveling at unique architecture as much as the next guy, but it becomes boring after a while. Have you ever dated a beautiful gorgeous woman who has nothing to offer other than her beauty? She's fun for a little while but sooner or later you want something more than a show piece.

I only mentioned Halflife as a game which has benefitted from the licensing or use of Id technology such as it's engine. All I'm saying is,... The Doom III engine will spawn some GREAT games created by developers who create great gameplay experiences.

OK, The ID games (Quake 1/2, Doom xyz) lacked a fascinating storyline greatly. Gameplay was without a doubt almost perfect and atmosphere was more like a b-movie...
I really loved Halflife, System Shock 1+2, Jedi Knight 2 and new games of that kind with the doom 3 engine would be great but after all I play fps only once and then it's done (exception: Halflife) so after all I don't really need a great storyline. NOLF 1/2 and others might have a nice story and be very funny, at least any fps released today must have a nice story (so the people say). But I don't need/want it. I think NOLF suxx, so do most of actual shooters (including the upcoming James Bond Game). I always liked these straight forward shooters like Doom, Quake, Serious Sam (there's another SS-like game upcoming, isn't it?) so Doom 3 will be perfect for me.
If I want a great storyline and atmosphere, I prefer RTS and (action)RPGs and (action)Adventures like System Shock (which is more actionadventure than fps in my opinion).
Don't get me wrong: I understand that some (today most) gamers want a great story in fps and they should get what they want, but I prefer the simple way in that kind of games.
Of course, new games with the DoomIII engine could/will make many things much better that DoomIII itself and I think that we can take for granted that a whole bunch of games will use IDs new technology since this happened with every Doom/Quake-Engine.
I'm looking forward to Doom III and 'DoomIIIengine-driven' Games not because of the engine but of the game itself.

For those who need help
Hey gamers,

For those of you who need help starting Doom III alpha or those who are trying to tweak it to run better, here is a link for you.

They have a doomconfig.cfg you can download there that supposedly increases performance. Additionally there is also instructions for editing the doomIII.exe with a hex editor to increase performance. There is also a config you can download to get the e3bathroom5 map to work. I haven't tried any of them yet but I will and report back here. Remember gamers to back up your doom3.exe and doomconfig.cfg files before editing them.

For those of you who are having problems starting the alpha and are unsure what to do, here is a link for you.

I Thought I already posted this a while ago,

Someone Said It doesnt Run On Celeron Processors *which is what i have unfortunetly* And I think he said it does not run on Athlon Systems. (at least older ones i guess)

I just thought it was my radeon preventing it from working, but it was probably my processor.

But dont worry when the real thing comes out it will work!

Athlons work.
I have a AMD Athlon XP 2200+ (1.8ghz approx.) and the DooM III leaked alpha works slick on my machine. 'Course I have dl'ed the 'alpha patch' to help things along and tweaked the .cfg a little too to get better video performance on my GeForce 4 4600ti 128mb. I'm sure it works leaps and bounds better on the new ATI 9700's since Carmack ran the test on those, but whatever. Can't wait for the retail release! Rawk on, Id!

P.S.- Use Kazaa if you have a decent connection. I just searched for "Doom III alpha" and found plenty of people with it. File is about 373mb in .rar format. Get WinRAR to uncompress the file and you're good to go.

P.P.S.-Got cheats to work to. In a sense. The give all cheat gives the prerequisite shotgun, pistol, and FNP-90 lookalike machine gun as well as some shoddily built models of the Quake III plasma gun, bfg, rocket launcher and gauntlet. Why? I have no idea. Placeholders? Maybe. But why the gauntlet??? Weirdo coders.

Help! I got the demo but cant load any of the levels. I get mssgs like "cant load ...." etc. Isthere a way to fix this? Im using the console command. Has anyone got the patchs and do they work? Is there a link to the patches? Theres a patch which is 120MB - has onyone got it and does it work?

Hello..I have a couple of questions..in second map,what is a password to open locked door ? I can't find it anywhere...and on first map,when I play a little and enter throught some door,everything just go black and it says demostoprecording or something...is this supposed to happen ?

The password to open the door is 924. Once you entered the room the fps will drop to like 5-10, but I think you´ll pull through...
About the second question... I´m not sure... It happens on my computer too, so I think that it´s the end of the level.

Well it works fine for ME!!!
i got it runing on a mates pc at 120 to 140 FPS on a coustom build IBM two P4 runing at 5600 mhz with a GF4 TI 4400 all so with 4832mb or SDRAM and all i can say is at 1600x1200 this game rocks!!!

I got it on KaZaA Lite
i got the doom_iii.rar download off kazaa lite.
It works if u follow the instructions (i think it was #501 or seomthing here).
Sometimes it messes up, and exits. But i guess thats normal for all betas.

Freeked me out tho :P heh
