cyberfight: Hi, Anton! I think, there’s no such need to introduce you to our readers, as everybody know well your achievements in Quake 3. Congratulations on your return from the World cup (ESWC 2004)! What are your general impressions from this year tourney? You took part in ESWC 2003 and can compare them…
Hi and thanks. My impressions are the best, despite a little defeat =). The organization was top level, considering the number of participants. The venue was the same as last year, so there was nothing new for mee to see. Concerning the Q3 tourney, I can say that the idea was very interesting, but maps were very stupid. I think a Q3 tourney must be played on Q3 maps, and not on pro-mode’s. It’s the same thing as if you were playing CS on crossfire. I also didn’t like the Q3-jury’s attitude, they were sort of not cordial and unkind towards Russians – no facts, but that’s just my impression. Maybe it’s because we are Russians =).
cyberfight: Could you give your captain’s comment on the rather bad performance of the Russian team? On your opinion, what did they lack to defeat Americans in the semi-final?
I can find a lot of reasons. Undoubtedly, the players lacked experience. I was ready for the tourney despite the bad skill. And newbies like Morfez and Evil felt responsibility and fear. This hardly influences the whole player’s performance. I’d also notice the difference in playing style of Russian and foreign players that influences the game, too. I mean foreign players’ unavailability to action in game. As for me, it’s much easier to play with foreigners than with Russians. And back to maps. We weren’t trained for the new ones, we had no experience on them. And this is sort of privilege for those who play pro-mode and QW. These were Americans who had this privilege ;). In fact, I don’t like justifying myself, we lost because we played badly =).

cyberfight: What’s your impression about the performance of the Americans, the Swedish and the Bielarussians? Do these teams have their own peculiarities?
All players are experienced and strong. But they all do have different playing styles and basis. Some play attack, some defense, some rail – these bastards annoy me the most =). It’s always interesting to deal with all of them =) and defeat all of them =).
cyberfight: What do you think, were these really the strongest Russian players to go to the World Cup, or there were other team staff options?
There’s a lot of great players in Russia. The team wasn’t perfect, but I had no choice. All the good players either stopped playing or had some problems that didn’t allow them to go to the tourney. From the start we wanted to cast Cooller, LeXeR, Unkind , Death Evil. If unkind after WCG 2002 and LeXeR after QuakeCon 2002 were there, it could be easier. In fact, our team was very strong and we could easily win.

cyberfight: Could you explain, why Unkind refused to play the semi-final? What happened? We heard about an incident… Can you tell us about this?
There was no refuse, it’s all nonsense spread by Lexx who wrote this rubbish on cyberfight.ru =). It was like this: after losing to St-Germain, Unkind came up to me with apologies and asked to replace his pro-q3tourney4 with ztn3tourney1. I mean him playing on ztn3tourney1, and somebody else – on pro-q3tourney4. As for the incident, I don’t know much about it, as I was sleeping when it happened. It was like an American UT2004 player infinity drank after his loss and started quarrelling with others, so Unkind hit him =). But they blamed America.
cyberfight: So, what’s next? What are your plans for the next six months? Maybe, QuakeCon 2004?
Yes, I plan visiting QuakeCon 2004 and trying DOOM 3. Especially that I have my US visa ready. We’ll see what’s next after Qcon 2004.
cyberfight: Anton, could you tell us about the changes in your personal life in last couple of years? Purely from the human point of view – how did you change?
Dima, are you getting keen on philosophy =)? Maybe I changed in all possible meanings.
cyberfight: What nominations would you like to see at the upcoming ASUS Summer 2004? DOOM 3, perhaps?
It’s too early for DOOM 3 yet, considering also the resources… I mean fast computers, videocards etc. Q3 1x1, 2x2, 4x4 – I want them!
cyberfight: You live among people, not on a desert island. It means you must be surrounded with people who are close to you. Who are they? Who plays important role in your life?
My folks? I think for everyone these are people who are a bit close than passers-by. These are for me my fellows, friends, my parents, finally and my girlfriend. So, all this social group influences me. Influences one’s socially-psychological development. One’s activity, one’s psychic and personality development. Kinda like this.
cyberfight: Cool uttering! =) As far as I know you’re successfully studying at your institute. Doesn’t it bother your training? Do you find time for other activities?
On one hand, one thing doesn’t bother others, on the other hand, it takes my time and sometimes problems appear. But I try to be successful in all these domains. And find time to live, do I have my right for that? =)
cyberfight: As I see by the tag before your nickname, you have a sponsor… Could you tell about this?
Yes, with pleasure. It’s the territory.ru company. It’s an online game, sort of fight club. They also have a CS team. I’m in good relations with this company and we have mutual understanding in questions of sponsorship.
cyberfight: Anton, from what press and online publications do you get information about upcoming tourneys and cybersport in general, what websites do you have in your Favorites?
www.cyberfight.ru, www.esreality.com, www.gameinside.com
cyberfight: Have you ever considered creating a weblog like livejournal.com?
I had, but had no time for that. I have many things to do besides that.
cyberfight: What would you like to say to your friends, relatives and our readers?
Thanks to all my friends. To my parents for understanding, support and help. To all who supported our team and tried to encourage us. To Unkind, Evil, Morfez for their performance. To www.cyberfight.ru for the coverage and interesting questions. To ESWC for the invitation and understanding. To www.territory.ru specially. And of course to my beloved girlfriend – for being there. |
