Lexx: Hello, please introduce yourself :) SK|Bds: Hi, my name is Andreas, I am 24 years old and the manager and part owner of SK. I am in Korea with SK.swe at the moment.
Lexx: How did you encounter the computer games? As far as I understand right now you're into making professional gaming even more structured, complicated and organized, your team is often compared with Real Madrid, please tell us about "your story" in this sport, I know it wasn't short one. SK|Bds: I started to play HLDM at work 5 years ago just for fun. Then after a while a friend introduced me to Counter-Strike. I founded clan GeekBoys and we started to play matches. It went on quite good and a few months later we were considered the best team in Europe. With the release of beta 6.5 I stopped playing and switched to Quake III for a short period of time. And about one year later I did a short comeback in CS. After CPL Winter 2001 I quit playing and started to concentrate on SK as a whole. And here we are now. I am currently working full time with gaming and I enjoy it a lot!
Lexx: What does SK mean for you right now? Team, project or something else? SK|Bds: About 25% work and 75% hobby right now. My aim is to have this as a job for 100%. We are having a great time with a lot of success and I see a bright future in SK and Esports.
Lexx: There are a lot of SK players in every nomination here in Korea, your predictions? SK|Bds: CS top 3, WC3 top 5, FIFA top 10. Everything can happen in a tournament and there a lot of good players and teams here. I miss SK UT2K3.
Lexx: What is your usual day looks like? SK|Bds: Wake up, feed the dog, say good bye to my girlfriend and head to work in Stockholm. After that I usually go to Inferno Online (our internet cafe) to meet up with the players. Then I get back home, do something with my girlfriend, go out or go to the movies. I enjoy sporting, specially playing golf.
Lexx: Is SK your main job or you have some other, "real" job besides it? SK|Bds: I have my own company where I work full time with gaming related projects. SK is a part of that.
Lexx: Last year, Russian M19 won the Gold at WCG 2002, do you think it was luck or actual skill? Please, try to answer honestly as a professional, not looking at origin of our web-site and stuff. SK|Bds: I do not think luck exists in tournament to be honest. Of course you can say that this and that happened. But as long as the event is running as it should (correct settings and so on) it is skill. Unfortunately Sweden has not sent their best CS teams before. 2001 teams picked CPL Winter instead and 2002 we had teams with mixed nationalities that couldn't participate.
Lexx: How did you come up with the idea of SK Insider? SK|Bds: As the text says it is for the fans, although I know many people think that is a lie and that we only want to make money. The thing is that without SK Insider there would be almost 0 stuff from SK since the interest is so big and we don't have very much of spare time.
Lexx: What are your future plans for SK? SK|Bds: To make every team top 5 in the world. Make the situation even better for the players. I see a future where everyone can make a nice living out of gaming. And in the future we will add more teams in new games.
Lexx: What do you think of CPL vs. WCG? What is what for you, your views? SK|Bds: They are very different. CPL runs the most professional tournaments. Always great for the players. Gaming in general is different in Asia and it is great to be here at WCG.
Lexx: A lot of teams dream about sponsors like SK has, what can you suggest to their managers? Any advice? SK|Bds: Create a company. Find players that fit socially. Sign them with contracts (that are good for the company/team AND the players). Find your image. Create a presentation. And get to work!
Lexx: Final shout outs? SK|Bds: Thanks to all our fans out there! |
